Leonardo DiCaprio is being sought to take on the lead role in an upcoming biopic of the Apple co-founder, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It seems as if Danny Boyle - director of Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting - is being lined up as director, with DiCaprio as his first choice as lead. The pair have previously collaborated on 2000's The Beach, which was one of DiCaprio's first major roles after Titanic.

The script for the as-yet untitled film is being written by Aaron Sorkin, the creator of the West Wing, and is based on Walter Isaacson's biopic of Jobs. Sorkin had been expected to team up with his Social Network collaborator David Fincher for the film, but director Fincher left the project earlier this month.

The Hollywood Reporter's sources caution that there is no deal signed with either DiCaprio or Boyle, with the actor already committed to filming The Revenant later this year.

The planned Jobs film would be the second major cinematic biopic of the late Steve Jobs, with Ashton Kutcher having already played the technology pioneer in 2013's Jobs. A television movie called Pirates of Silicon Valley was released in 1999, exploring the rivalry between Jobs and Bill Gates, with Noah Wyle playing Jobs.
