Laois manager Seamus 'Cheddar' Plunkett wants his side on the front foot when they take on Galway in the Leinster Championship this weekend.

"A lot of the hurling has gone tactical. I wouldn't call it defensive, I'd call it a different way of attacking. I suppose what we're trying to do is not trying to be defensive in terms of stopping opposition, it's really looking at how we can actually hold possession ourselves and work possession up the field. That's what we'll be looking at for Sunday," said Cheddar, whose Laois team gave Galway a scare last year.

He also highlighted the benefits of being part of Division 1B having been promoted from Division 2A.

"This is the level of competition we want to play in. We want to learn our hurling at this level. No disrespect to the counties in Division 2 but you simply don't get the pace of hurling at that level and that has been invaluable to us," said the former Laois full forward.

Nine of the Laois side set to face Galway were involved with the U21s in recent weeks and he believes it has "advantages and disadvantages" especially when it comes to pre-match practice.

Regardless of any disruption, Cheddar added that his team will be "tearing into Galway on Sunday".
