The actor stars in Lars von Trier's drama about a woman who recounts her most erotic experiences to a man who saves her from a beating.

It has plenty of risqué bedroom scenes, but Shia allegedly wanted to take things one step further by having a camera attached to his manhood for the feature.

“Shia had wanted von Trier to put a camera on his penis while filming, so that audiences could have the full experience,” an insider divulged to New York Post's Page Six.

It's thought the request was declined as it would have been "too much" for viewers.

Shia, 27, has made headlines with his strange behaviour recently and baffled fans when he wore a paper bag with the words 'I am not famous anymore' on his head at Berlinale International Film Festival in Germany.

There were rumours the actor chose the strange accessory to cover up a missing tooth that had been knocked out during a bar brawl.

Another explanation was that the star pulled out his tooth while on set with Brad Pitt for Fury, in a bizarre attempt at method acting.

TMZ recently obtained a video of the star seemingly making an attempt to explain his behaviour over the past few months.

"I'm not sure I'm going to have any more problems, you know what I'm saying? I'm really just trying to make peace. I'm a normal human being, I accept what I've got to get into to do what I love," he said as the camera shows him rolling a cigarette with a group of friends.

"I am a human being, you know what I mean? I'm super normal. Like more normal than most. When people want to get hostile, and sh*t on my girl's mom and say things that are out of turn... And I'm sorry about that, and I've got no control over that. I'm just trying to make peace."

In January Shia announced on Twitter he was retiring from public life following accusations of plagiarism.
