Dennis Kimetto has broken the marathon world record with a stunning performance at the Berlin marathon. The Kenyan ran the race in two hours, two minutes and 57 seconds – breaking the record, previously held by Wilson Kipsang, by 26 seconds.
Kimetto broke free of his nearest challenger, Emmanuel Mutai, with three miles remaining.
"I feel good because I won a very tough race," Kimetto told the BBC.
"I felt good from the start and in the last few miles I felt I could do it and break the record."
The previous record was set 12 months ago, also at the Berlin marathon, by Wilson Kipsang, also of Kenya.
