Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro has set one of the fastest La Liga hat-tricks of all time.

The Frenchman scored his three goals at a vital time for Atletico against relegation threatened Sporting Gijon to keep Diego Simeone's men on course to finish in the Top Four.

The scores were locked at 1-1 with 10 minutes to go when Gameiro began to make his mark with his first goal.

Within four minutes and 43 seconds he had netted his second and third to complete his hat-trick in the 4-1 victory.

Gameiro's time was similar to the one set by ex-Barcelona and Valencia striker David Villa's in 2005-06.

According to statistics providers Opta, it is the fastest La Liga hat-trick since Brazil's 1994 World Cup winner Bebeto scored a quickfire hat-trick of his own for Deportivo de la Coruna in 1995 against Albacete.

The Premier League record in England is held by Liverpool striker Sadio Mane, who scored three goals in 2 minutes 56 seconds for Southampton against Aston Villa at the end of the 2014-15 season.
