Kenny Cunningham believes Manchester City-bound Pep Guardiola would have been the "ideal fit" to replace Arsene Wenger if Arsenal were to make a change.

While the former Ireland centre-back was impressed by much of Arsenal's approach against Barcelona despite the defeat, he also gave his take on the wider criticism of the manager and who could take on that job if Wenger were to step away.

"I think the man is there but unfortunately they've been too late. I think Guardiola was the man to be the ideal fit for Arsenal. I think when it became obvious he wasn't staying at Bayern Munich, that's the man Arsenal should have been pushing for and I think even Wenger should have been knocking on Ivan Gazidis' door and say 'look, I think you can get Guardiola to this football club, I'll step aside and allow this man to come in,'" he told Off The Ball.

Kenny also shared his thoughts on new signing Mohamed Elneny who got Arsenal's only goal tonight.

"I'd reserve judgement for the moment. He looks a reasonably accomplished player, good physical presence. The finish tonight against Barcelona wasn't the finish of a natural defensive-minded midfield player. He looked very comfortable around the opposition penalty box. It was a beautiful strike of the ball as well," he said, adding that the Egyptian adds another type of option in the engine room.
