Katie Taylor and David Oliver Joyce have taken another step towards Olympic qualification.

The pair both won their quarter-finals today at the European Olympic Qualifiers in Turkey.

Taylor defeated Yvonne Baek Rasmussen of Denmark by unanimous decision to move within one fight of going to Rio to defend her lightweight gold.

Joyce lost his first round to Vazgen Safaryants but fought back to battle through to the semi-finals.

However, there was was disappointment for Ceire Smith and Christina Desmond, who both lost their quarter finals.

Smith lost to Ukraine’s Tetyana Kob by split decision, while Desmond was defeated by Hungary's Petra Szatmari despite prevailing in the first round.

The evening session begins at 5pm Irish time with Darren O'Neill and Brendan Irvine also returning to the ring for their quarter-finals.
