Jurgen Klopp faces into a busy festive period this Christmas in charge of title chasing Liverpool, but took time out of his schedule to write to a Dublin woman battling cancer.

Ballyfermot woman Marie Wright received the letter from the German manager this month and Klopp insisted no matter what happens, Liverpool fans will "never walk alone".

The 67-year-old was diagnosed in February and was told she would only have weeks to live. She of course defied this prognosis and has since continued chemotherapy treatment.

Just this season, Marie was at Anfield to watch the Reds beat Premier League champions Leicester City 4-1.

"As one of our supporters, that means you are part of the LFC family and we care about you," Klopp wrote.

Speaking to The Echo, Marie's daughter Janice said: "She wants to go back to Liverpool after Christmas, God willing – she is just so positive and is taking everything in her stride."

Liverpool fans here in Ireland as well as in the UK contributed to helping Marie visit Anfield this season, securing tickets for the game as well as a wheelchair and itinerary for the weekend.
