The actress' 37-year-old sibling Nancy Motes has died of an apparent drug overdose, according to a statement released by her family Monday.

People.com reports Nancy was Julia and Eric Roberts' youngest sister.

"It is with deep sadness that the family of Nancy Motes... confirms that she was found dead in Los Angeles yesterday of an apparent drug overdose," a statement from the family reads.

"There is no official report from the Coroner's office yet. The family is both shocked and devastated."

Julia recently opened up about her family dynamic.

The actress told British newspaper The Mirror she can relate to the characters in her new movie August: Osage County, which tells the story of a family brought together by crisis.

"There's nothing like making a movie like this to make you go home and appreciate what you have. I love to cook and I love to have all my family around the dinner table," she said.

"It's definitely a place for revelations and in some cases they can turn ugly, but for me it's a very happy space and a nourishing, beautiful place for a family to spend time together."

The 46-year-old star and her husband Daniel Moder share twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and son Henry.

And she said having plenty of family time between movies is the most important thing to her.

"My life at home gives me absolute joy. Having so much time there with the family has just been incredible," she gushed.

"My life has changed and I work less, but I was never really one to work too much.

"I never really did years of movie after movie after movie. When you've got three children in the house you're performing all day long, anyway. I act around the clock."
