The current Leeds United team are a far cry from the side that John Giles was part of.
But as bad as things have been for the club since relegation from the Premier League ten years ago, the situation got a little more farcical over the past week as the club's shirt sponsor filed a winding-up order.
It came days after manager Brian McDermott's future was put in serious limbo and in addition prospective owner Massimo Cellino has a criminal record.
John joined us on the show tonight and he is frustrated by the situation.
"The latest situation is a joke and has turned the club into a laughing stock. There were 31,000 people at the Huddersfield match last Saturday. The support is there, the stadium is there for the Premier League. What they need is good owners and they're not getting them," said John.
He is also far from enthused by the prospect of a takeover by Cellino who has past convictions for fraud.
"It seems like you have to have a criminal record to own a club in England now the way it's going. It looks like anyone with a few bob can come in and take it over without any regulation. The fella that is coming in has been up for fraud years ago and what he did to Brian McDermott...he sacked him without having control of the club. What was very good was the reaction of the supporters who went down to the ground and made him change his mind. I think he was a bit scared of them."
But he believes that it is a matter of time before the "gentleman" McDermott is sacked by Cellino.
Last week, John told us how he was arrested for a drive-by shooting with a water pistol. Tonight he talked about the pranks he was involved in at Leeds United, with former Ireland manager Jack Charlton ending up as one of his victims.
"We used to train on a Monday which wasn't the most enjoyable day. It was a real cold day and Jack wasn't in the best of form. The toilets at Leeds were across the corridor. Jack picked up his paper and went to the toilet. Allan Clarke and myself were a little bit bored. They used to have a big bin for all the gear. We filled the bin up with a hose of freezing cold water. We emptied it right over the top of the toilet while Jack was reading the paper. We could hear him gasping. Jack didn't take a joke very well. He was drenched and he pointed straight at Allan Clarke and called him a skinny so-and-so. Then he pointed at me and called me 'you little Irish so-and-so'. He was getting more and more annoyed. He got the paper, threw it down on the table and he says, 'I can tell you now that nobody will have a crappin' peace in this club again and the biggest thing is that you didn't even get me.'"
John also discussed the management situations at Fulham and Swansea, being especially critical of the decision to remove Michael Laudrup.
And he also hit out at Jose Mourinho publicizing the fact that the masseur gave the Chelsea team-talk before the Manchester City match. Listen to the full interview via the podcast.
