England prop Joe Marler will not be punished for his strike on Wales' loosehead Rob Evans during Saturday’s 25-21 Six Nations victory over Wales at Twickenham.

The Harlequins loosehead appeared to land a forearm/elbow in the face of Evans while trying to help his teammate Dan Cole ground the ball over the Welsh try-line.

Marler admitted to an act of foul play, but an independent Six Nations disciplinary committee has ruled his actions did not merit a red card.

The 25-year-old still faces disciplinary action for an incident of verbal abuse, in which Marler called Samson Lee “gypsy boy”.

Verbal abuse of a player based on religion, race, colour, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation or otherwise carries a minimum sanction of a four-week suspension.
