Joe Canning made his long awaited return for Galway on Sunday after suffering a hamstring injury against Tipperary in the All-Ireland hurling final last year.

The Tribesmen lost out to Wexford 3-13 to 1-21 despite Canning scoring a goal after Galway were awarded a penalty in the second half.

A crowd of just over 7,000 was treated to a high scoring match where Wexford trailed by 2-07 to 0-11 at half time.

Canning's goal had given the Maroons a six point advantage but Wexford rallied superbly to claim a magnificent win.

Wexford will play Kerry next as Galway entertain Laois in a couple of weeks time.
