Kildare county board may ratify Jason Ryan as their manager tonight.
The former Wexford boss who served as a coach under Kieran Mc Geeney is the favourite to take over from the Armagh man.
Ryan guided Wexford to two Leinster final appearances and an All-Ireland semi-final defeat to eventual champions Tyrone in 2008.
The Kildare County Board are likely to propose his appointment to club delegates at a meeting in Newbridge tonight.
McGeeney was removed from the Kildare post in contentious circumstances after six years at the helm. The county board decision which was passed by a single vote (29 to 28) and sparked a flurry of criticism from Lilywhite players including Johnny Doyle who described it as a "black day for Kildare".
