Overnight leader William McGirt shot a second round 74 to move back to a tie for third place on -2. He is joined by Emiliano Grillo and Piercy.

Major winners Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott are both in contention to win at Firestone GC. They are both on -1. Scott already has experience of winning at the course. He was the Bridgestone champion in 2011.

Reigning champion Shane Lowry has moved up to a tie for 47th place. The Offaly native shot a second round of 72. He lies 12-shots behind Day ahead of the weekend.
