Japan have named ex-Mexico manager Javier Aguirre after a disappointing World Cup campaign.

The Blue Samurai were coached by Alberto Zaccheroni in Brazil, where they lost two and drew one group match.

Aguirre has extensive experience managing in La Liga, having coached Atletico Madrid, Osasuna, Real Zaragoza and Espanyol.

The Mexican also led his national team to the 2002 World Cup, while he also took El Tri to the 2001 Copa America final.
