Republic of Ireland midfielder Jack Byrne has completed his move to APOEL Nicosia.

The Cypriot First Division side are managed by the man who gave Byrne his international debut, Mick McCarthy.

The 24-year old has signed a contract with his new club until May 2023, and he'll wear the number 29 jersey.

The move ends a two-year association with Shamrock Rovers where Byrne breathed new life into his career after losing his way in England.

At Tallaght Stadium, Byrne won the 2019 FAI Cup and the 2020 SSE Airtricity Premier Division title.

Byrne was named PFAI player of the year in both 2019 and 2020, and won international recognition in September of 2019 with a substitute appearance against Bulgaria. He's since won three more caps.

McCarthy took over at APOEL, but has endured a far from sparkling start at the club.

They're fourth-from-bottom in the table, having won just two league games under McCarthy so far.

APOEL have lost each of their last three games in the First Division without scoring a goal, and McCarthy will hope Byrne can add some much-needed creativity to the side.
