Yesterday, renowned Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano passed away at the age of 74.

During his career, he became famous for his literary preeminence and his eloquent views on football.

"It's a little bit like a combination of Richie Benaud and George Orwell has left us," said BBC South American football expert Tim Vickery told Off The Ball tonight.

He empahsised the cultural importance of Galeano's great work Football in Sun and Shadow which gave him a real insight into South American football culture.

"His big mission in life as a football fan was to see a great move from any team and applaud it, no matter where it came from. There was something gloriously old-fashioned about him and this sense of values and international brotherhood."

Vickery also gave us his perspective on an alleged Arsenal target, Maxi Romero (16), who has been dubbed the "new Messi" by the press.
