All of Continental Europe's major leagues have returned in recent weeks as Ben Lyttleton returned to Off the Ball last night to look back at the weekend's action.

Gareth Bale has become the major attacking threat at Real Madrid as he begins his third season at Real Madrid and first under Rafa Benitez. The Welsh star scored twice against Real Betis at the weekend in their 5-0 win, including his opening goal inside 90 seconds.

In Germany, Bayern Munich won last weekend without a recognised centre half and played three defenders in their win over Bayer Leverkusen. Lyttleton told Joe that the move came about because the Bavarians were decimated in defence due to injuries and suspensions.

Lyttleton also spoke to Joe on the show about the impending transfer of Anthony Martial from Monaco to Manchester United.
