Cork's Bryan Keane qualified for the Olympics today for the first time following an excellent display in Yokohama, Japan.

The 35-year-old entered the race knowing that a competitive outing would be enough to keep him in contention.

A poor swim was not the start Keane was hoping for but he moved up to 32nd following the cycle and jumped a further 10 places over the first half of the run. He would find himself 12 places better off by the end of the run assuring him of his place on the plane to Rio.

Triathlon Ireland recorded Keane's reaction straight after the race.

Keane suffered a horrific injury, which included a broken knee along with plenty of pins, wires, surgeries and rehab when a car hit him while he was out training on his bike five years ago. He has been on a mission to make the Olympics ever since.
