League of Ireland teams have something to smile about as UEFA announced that clubs playing in the Europa League are to receive more prize money than they previously got from next season to 2018.
It has been increased by 65 per cent, which means teams in that competition have edged closer to what sides in the elite Champions League get.
This season, Irish clubs received a minimum of €120K for playing in the Europa League first qualifying round.
Next season Cork City, St. Patrick's Athletic and Shamrock Rovers will pocket at least €200K.
Ireland's next Champions League representatives Dundalk will receive a minimum €550K from participation in the competition, compared to the minimum €375K available to St Patrick's Athletic last season.
