Cycling's World governing body the UCI have confirmed that two Irish cyclists will compete in the men's road race at the 2016 Olympic Games.

The announcement brings Ireland's team up to 55 athletes for the Games that officially begins in Rio de Janeiro on August 5th.

Ireland have been represented by at least two athletes in the Men's Road Race in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Four years ago the team were represented by Daniel Martin, David McCann, Nicolas Roche. McCann was the best of the Irish finishing in 55th place.

The announcement of who will be on the team, will not be made by Cycling Ireland until later this year.
