Crystal Palace's sporting director Iain Moody has tendered his resignation this morning in the wake of revelations alleging the exchange of racist, sexist and homophobic text messages with former Cardiff manager Malky Mackay.

A statement from the Eagles this morning read:

"In light of the events of yesterday, Sporting Director, Iain Moody has tendered his resignation and it has been accepted with immediate effect."

The controversial communication in question occurred during Mackay's tenure as Cardiff City manager while Moody held the position as Head of Recruitment. Mackay had been widely expected to be appointed as the next Crystal Palace manager after the departure of Tony Pulis last week but this dossier sent to the FA has ended his chances of taking the managerial hotseat at Selhurst Road, and perhaps any future roles on the frontline of professional football.

The FA has confirmed that it has received a detailed account of dealings between the pair and says that it is "currently investigating this matter."

There has yet to be any comment on the matter from either Moody, Mackay, Cardiff City or Crystal Palace.
