With Wimbledon playing Liverpool tonight, thoughts have naturally turned to the famous Crazy Gang team which shocked the Reds to win the 1988 FA Cup final.

In some ways that has been seen as a fairytale but Pat Nevin, who played against Vinnie Jones, John Fashanu, Dennis Wise and co, had a different view of that team.

Speaking to Off The Ball tonight, he said: "I actually hated their style of play and I didn't care much for them. It didn't look like a fairytale at the time, purely because I thought they were putting English football backwards because of the way they were playing. But in the end they were a small team who you had to applaud for doing as well as they did."

Pat recalled playing against them in a friendly while at Chelsea as the physical Dons came up through the divisions and came off the pitch thinking "what the hell happened there?"

He believes that no team could play like that Wimbledon team now because most of the team would get sent off, but praised their team spirit.

Pat also discussed the fading magic of the FA Cup, although he believes there is still life in the tournament.
