It was not a match made for forward players, but Wayne Rooney again failed to set an occasion alight for Manchester United - this in the derby stalemate against rivals City on Sunday.
The club captain is not in good form at present, leading to criticism and question marks, and ex-Ireland and Chelsea defender Paddy Mulligan thinks it's time manager Louis van Gaal took him out of the firing line up front.
"Rooney has not been good for three years. I said three years ago that United should go and cash in and get rid of him because we've seen the best of Wayne Rooney," he said on the Rewind podcast.
"His pace is gone and I'm not so sure, but maybe his passion for the game is gone. Fourteen years [at the top] is a long, long time and he's been holding Man United together too as well and he's been asked to play in every position. What Van Gaal should do is stick Martial up front and let Rooney play off him. Or else give Rooney a break for a few weeks and see if that can re-energise him."
