Sean Armstrong has brought his career with the Galway senior footballers to an end.
The 29-year-old Salthill-Knocknacarra attacker’s decision will be a blow to new Tribes manager Kevin Walsh as the county lost forwards Michael Meehan (back in March) and James Kavanagh (earlier this month) this year.
Armstrong told the Irish Independent: "I have chatted with Kevin, a couple of long chats through November and the beginning of December but I don't see myself returning to the fold in January and that will be it for me then.
"I haven't the same love for it that I once had.
"It has become extremely time-consuming. To go back into the fold, in my eyes, you need to be 100 per cent committed to the cause and I don't want to go back even 80 per cent or 90 per cent feeling that if I go back in I'll get the grá back I'll get motoring.
"It would just be unfair to everyone involved.”
He added: "I'm playing since 2005, but I would say it (two Connacht titles) is a poor return. I would have no problem admitting that."
