The 1500 metre Olympic winner in Melbourne in 1956 dropped into studio to talk about his work with the elderly.
The Arklow native is an ambassador for Friends of the Elderly and he spoke to Breakfast about what the charity is all about.
"The essence of the whole thing is love, give the elderly who are alone love."
Speaking about the current crop of athletes in Ireland, Ronnie was positive but did sound a word of warning.
"We've phenomenal, there is not other sport in Ireland where we have so many people in the first six in the world...we've incredible athletic talent in Ireland. The problem with athletics in Ireland is they don't get the opportunity to race, they have to be invited to race"
