It was another busy day of action for the Irish today with many positives at Rio 2016.

In the rowing, both Irish pairs have qualified for their respective finals.

Skibereen brothers Gary and Paul O'Donovan qualified for the final of the double sculls in Rio, as did Claire Lambe and Sinead Lynch in the Women's Lightweight Double Sculls.

It was also a good day for the men's hockey team who beat Canada 4-2 to give themselves hope of progressing to the next round.

Steven Donnelly also brought an end to a tough run of result for Team Ireland's boxers by beating his Mongolian opponent to reach the quarter-finals and get within one win of a medal.

Padraig Harrington and Seamus Power both took part in the first round of Olympic golf for over a century and the Irish duo carded solid rounds of 1-under and level par respectively.

Judy Reynolds also guaranteed her place in the individual dressage final after an impressive performance.

Earlier today, Chloe Magee was beaten by world number two Yihan Wang in the Women' Badminton Singles and Shane Ryan finished third in his 50 metre freestyle swimming heat.
