The Aran Islands face Achill this weekend in the Connacht Junior football final in Tuam. Aran won the Galway junior title after a couple of close shaves in recent years beating not only their opponents but the logistics that they need to get over for every game and training session they participate in.

Ciaran O’Donnell is their Galway based captain and he spoke to me on a wet and windy day on the West coast about people not even realising they have a team but first if there is any inter-island rivalry between the Aran players themselves!
