Simon West who's hits include Expendables 2, Con Air and Tomb Raider is selling shares to UK investors.

People must have a minimum of £1,000 pounds to buy into 'Salty' - a story about an ageing rock star whose wife gets kidnapped in Thailand.

The film has a budget of £5.9 million so far but West hopes to raise around £1.8million from crowdfunding investors through SyndicateRoom.

If the film makes money the investors will receive their investment back and possibly a share of the profits. But people who invest £90,000 or more have the chance to appear as an extra in the film.

West describes this unique investment opportunity: “During my two decades in the movie business I’ve funded films in a variety of ways, but for this one I was determined to break away from the big budget, big studio model. With the studios’ deep pockets comes bureaucracy that’s inefficient, expensive and which can stifle creativity”

Producer Harry Stourton thinks the idea is a UK first.
