In a statement released following news of his death, studio executives behind the project stated: "Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation.

"We're very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip's family."

Director Francis Lawrence, Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins, Nina Jacobson, Jon Kilik and Jennifer Lawrence also released a statement on behalf of the cast and crew.

"Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now. Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family," they said.

THR reports Hoffman had completed his work for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.

The sequels were filming back-to-back in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to the outlet, projected release dates for the films will be unaffected.

"Sources say the films' scheduled release dates of Nov. 21, 2014, and Nov. 20, 2015, respectively, will not be affected by Hoffman's death," writers Rebecca Ford and Lesley Goldberg report.

Philip is survived by his wife Mimi O'Donnell and children Tallulah, Cooper and Willa.
