The Irish football team entered a new base today as Martin O'Neill's side trained at Abbotstown for the first time.

For almost a decade, the team were based at Gannon Park in Malahide, the home of Malahide United for all of their training sessions when the team were in camp.

Ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifiers with Gibraltar and Georgia, the camp trained this morning for the first time at the National Training Centre in the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown. The centre will be home to all Irish teams from now on.

The FAI's National Training Centre is only one part of the wider campus which already includes the National Aquatics Centre and will host be home to the National Indoor Arena.

Lets hope the permanent base will help improve the Irish teams fortunes at all levels.
