While many are lamenting the standard of football in the All-Ireland final between Kerry and Donegal, something rather special took place on the grounds of a different GAA club over the weekend.

At the Clare intermediate hurling championship where Feakle beat Parteen by 4-10 to 2-12, the trophy presentation that followed shows the true spirit of the GAA and its impact across the country.

JOE.ie is reporting that Laura Keane got in touch to say that her grandfather Jimmy Lynch, pictured in the wheelchair above, was in attendance at the match and was “thrilled” to see his beloved home club Feakle claim victory.

The crowd at the match called for Jimmy, who has Parkinson’s disease, to present the trophy to the team captain. However, the barriers meant he could not access to the stands by wheelchair.

With that, two men lifted Jimmy, who happens to be President of Feakle GAA club and “never misses a training session”, and carried him over the barriers allowing him to make the presentation.

Laura describes the moment saying: “I won’t lie, I was bawling crying! I haven’t seen the man as happy in so long. This gesture made me extremely proud of Feakle GAA club and how they treat all members.”

Jimmy’s smile really says it all. Maithú to all involved.
