Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says Sergio Aguero is still a few weeks away from a return, despite being back in training this week.

The Premier League club's record goalscorer had been self-isolating, first as a close contact of someone to have tested positive for coronavirus, then after falling ill with COVID-19 himself.

Aguero's only had three starts this season due to injury.

City go to Burnley on Thursday night, looking to open up a seven-point gap between themselves and Liverpool ahead of Sunday's blockbuster clash at Anfield.

However, Aguero will feature in neither game.

"He is still not training on the field. He started to move a little bit yesterday," Guardiola said on Tuesday, "He will need a few weeks to come back but it’s important he is negative.

"He is healthy again, and can come back again, but it is important for us to have him here.”

City remain without Kevin de Bruyne as well for another month due to injury.

A run of eight straight wins has seen Guardiola's side take charge of the Premier League title race. They haven't lost in any competition since late November.

But the City boss has warned against complacency ahead of a fixture they haven't lost in almost six-years.

"We were inconsistent during the season as well and we will see how consistent we are," Guardiola said, "But we are proving ourselves in different kinds of games.

"Some games we are more comfortable, other games we fought until the last minute - there cannot be another way.

"If you ask me what is going to happen in the future, my future is Burnley. Before we play against them, especially away, I never think it will be easy and the players know it.

"It is a special team, they play together with the same manager in sean dyche for a long time and they know exactly what they have to do.

"What they do, they do really well. In football and sport, what you have done in the past is nothing. When you are beaten or lose against them, it is the past.

"Every time is a new chance and challenge to do a good game, control the aspects and try to beat them. I don't pay any attention to what happened in the past, it is about how the players are right now today and especially tomorrow.

"We see them in the last games when they won at Anfield, and took a good result against Aston Villa at home. What happened in the past is in the past."
