Based on their form, it was always going to be a matter of time before Valencia sacked Gary Neville.

Off The Ball's European football correspondent Graham Hunter, who has spoken to the 41-year-old does not think the episode will have been too damaging for the Englishman.

"I think these are special circumstances given that he's been dealing with overpaid, gutless, cowardly footballers and given that he's been dealing with a squad put together by an agent with a vested interest," he told Off The Ball.

But where does he go next after Valencia?

"I'm not predicting but I wonder whether the next thing he has in mind is managing or coaching. I think he has altogether bigger plans in his head," said Graham.

"I would have thought there is a scenario where the Class of 92 and [Valencia owner] Peter Lim might be try to buy Manchester United from the American owners, is my opinion."
