Twin Peaks was a cultural phenomenon when it first aired on television in 1990, and has since gone on to become one of the most cult TV shows of all time. Fans obsessed over the mystery surrounding the murder of high school sweetheart Laura Palmer, and now it has come to light that the former leader of the USSR was just as fanatical about it.

Mikhail Gorbachev reportedly rang up US president George H. W. Bush to ask David Lynch to reveal who had done Laura in.

Ryan Hamilton Walsh, a songwriter, noticed the passage below from Brad Dukes’ book ‘Reflections: An Oral History of Twin Peaks’, and tweeted it:
