Golf's governing bodies have decided on a new rule which stops the way the controversial long putter is used. 

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club, and the US Golf Association, have announced that players will not be able to use anchored strokes from 2016. 

It is felt that the technique "may alter and diminish the fundamental challenges of the game".

Masters champion Adam Scott is among those players who uses the stroke.
