Brazil's 7 - 1 thrashing at the hands of Germany will never be forgotten and John Giles' views were in the same vein as the rest of us when he spoke to us tonight.

"It was a total humiliation for the Brazilian population. It wasn't just being beaten, it was humiliation," said John, who felt too many Brazilian players "were too high" emotionally and regards this as arguably the worst Brazil side ever.

"In Luiz's case, he was a loose cannon anyway. He has no discipline about him. We've seen it at Chelsea and he lost it the other night totally and was responsible for a lot of the disasters that befell Brazil."

John picked out the likes of Philippe Coutinho as creative players who could have been brought in and also touched on why Brazil are not creating the creative players of the past. He contrasted this with Germany's youth development approach, but also warned about the over-abundance of qualified coaches is not necessarily the answer.

"I know a lot of people with Pro Licences and they haven't got a clue. If you have a lot of people who go to Lilleshall in England, they all learn the same things. Sometimes it's right and sometimes it's not so right. They then are let loose on the kids. It depends what they're being taught. The coaching system in Germany and the philosophy being taught may be different totally to what's being taught in England," said John, who feels that creative kids are "being left to one side" in Ireland.

He was critical of the negative approach used by both Netherlands and Argentina in their semi-final and felt both sides lacked constructive midfields.
