MMA legend Georges St-Pierre has revealed an eye injury is delaying his return to the Octagon.

The former UFC welterweight champion agreed a new contract with the UFC earlier this year after a self-imposed hiatus from the sport.

The Canadian hasn't fought since a disputed split-decision win over Jonny Hendricks in November 2013.

However, he signed a new three-fight contract with the promotion and was slated to take on middleweight champion Michael Bisping.

The bout was scheduled to take place this summer but GSP revealed he wouldn't be ready to compete until the autumn.

Speaking in Montreal on Friday, he said: "If it were up to me, I would come back. The reason is, I had a problem with my eye. I had an injury.

"My vision has not been back yet. It will be back. It's something very minor. The doctor insisted for me that I don't spar until September."

"The UFC was aware of it. They knew I couldn't fight during the summer, but they still insisted on doing that press conference with Michael Bisping.

"And when it happened, we were not very excited about the idea, but we wanted that fight, so we decided to do it, but then it turned into a negative thing because it took so long," he added.

Bisping is also sidelined currently, recovering from a knee injury.
