George North has been omitted from Northampton's squad for tonight's crucial Aviva Premiership game against Sale.

The Wales winger was stood down by the club after a disturbing incident against Leicester earlier this month where he landed awkwardly after being tackled in the air.

North has a history of concussive injuries, and the latest incident sparked concern that his career may be coming to an end soon.

Ireland out-half Johnny Sexton went through a similar period of concern in 2014. However his doctor at Racing Metro ordered he take a 12 week break and consult independent neurologists.

Sexton's time off appears to have worked in his favour, and the player made a full recovery and return to the game.

A similar break might be beneficial to the Welshman as he looks to maintain his health and prolong his career.

A statement released by Northampton on the issue read: "George North has both trained with the squad and undergone a specialist review this week. All parties have agreed that North continue with a full training schedule with the rest of the club’s players to ensure he is fully prepared for first-team action."
