It has proved to be a frustrating day for the Irish athletes in action at the European Athletics Championships.

Thomas Barr, Brian Gregan and Sinead Denney were all unable to progress from their semi-finals in Amsterdam, while Eoin Everard had to settle for 11th place in his heat of the fifteen hundred metres, which wasn't enough for him to advance.

Barr did run a season's best time in the 400 metre hurdles but it was not enough, while Gregan finished seventh out of eight in his 400 metre heat.

However, during the morning session, Amy Foster qualified for the semi-finals of the 100 metres after finishing third in her heat.

Marcus Lawler's fifth place finish in his 200 metres heat was enough for him to progress as a fastest finisher.
