Norwich say that the sacking of Chris Hughton was a unanimous decision by the club's board.

The former Irish international was relieved of his duties last night after a disappointing run of form which has left the Canaries just five points and one place above the Premier League dropzone with five games of their season remaining.

Youth team coach Neil Adams has been placed in temporary charge, despite his lack of managerial experience at first-team level.

Norwich Chief Executive David McNally said that Hughton's recent results were not good enough.

"Seven away defeats consecutively, four defeats in six games. Four points in six games is relegation form and this great club needs to do something about that," said McNally.
