Formula 1's controversial elimination-style qualifying system has been scrapped in time for the next race.

The Chinese Grand Prix will have last season's format in place where the top ten drivers battle it out until the end of the final session.

The system in place for the first two races of this year saw drivers eliminated every 90 seconds, which ended up resulting in periods of inactivity.

All the teams had demanded a change to the former format, setting out their feelings in a letter signed by all 11 of them and sent to the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone.
