Albert Ebossé Bodjongo died on Saturday night after he was hit by an object thrown by a fan.
Ebossé, who played for JS Kabylie, was hit in the head by an object and later died in hospital.
The incident occurred at the end of a league game in Algeria when one of the teams angry fans threw something at Ebossé when he was walking off the pitch.
The 24-year-old was the Algerian league’s top goal scorer and had scored the team’s only goal in their 2-1 defeat to USM Alger.
The Algerian department of the interior and local government has asked for an investigation to be opened into Ebossé’s death.
