Barcelona's appeal against a one-year transfer ban has been rejected by FIFA.

The penalty was in relation to repeatedly breaching transfer regulations in signing youth players.

The ruling means that the Spanish club will not be able to bring in new players during 2015, covering the January and summer transfer windows.

While the ban was suspended as their appeal was processed, Barca have used that time to bring in eight senior players.

They have bought two goalkeepers in Marc Andre Ter-Stegen and Claudio Bravo, while defenders Jeremy Mathieu and former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen are joined by Croatian midfielder and ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez as new signings this summer.

Barcelona will not be able to sign players until the January 2016 transfer window, but they intend to take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
