Former All Ireland winner Galway manager Cyrill Farrell says that Antony Cunningham has lost the dressing room.

In his regular column to be released tomorrow Farrell says " I believe the management has lost the dressing room. I thought that was evident from the body language last Sunday, even from early on when Clare won the tactical battle hands down. Some players didn't seem to know what they were supposed to be doing."

The Tribesmen reached the All Ireland final last year and brought Kilkenny to a re-play however this year they recorded only one win in the Championship.

Farrell's full artuicle on the subject will be availible to read in full in tomorrows Irish Indepdent.

Just my thoughts but...

Consistency has always been a problem with Galway as it has been for Antrim  but Galway have a bigger playing pool and are closer to the main hurling hubs of Leinster and Munster than Antrim so it hasn’t been as big an issue.

I remember presenting on Newstalk Sports Saturday the day Galway were accepted into Leinster and talking to current and Galway players at the time and it was like a sort of wall coming down moment experienced by Berliners in  1989.

The move has worked out a first Leinster title for the county last year shows that but this year they had what one might call an old school Galway run into the Championship, one game against Laois was never going to prepare them for the intensity of the Dubs in the final so by the time it came to facing Cork last years beaten all Ireland finalists were undercooked.

Yes they were inconsistent in the league and the constant chopping and changing hasn’t helped but Antony Cunningham can only come up with tactics he can’t create hurlers , if a there is no obvious full back and centre back what can he do to create one? Sure he can craft them but he can only do so much. Brian Cody is the greatest manager ever but he has had great raw material to work with down the years  with some of the best players to grace the field in their various positions at his disposal, he made them better and in some cases perfected them along with his backroom team but they were good to start with which made the job a lot easier.
