Former Ireland international Mark Kennedy has joined Manchester City as a coach.

He makes the switch from Ipswich Town under-21 manager to a role with City's Academy.

Kennedy (40) won 34 caps for Ireland between 1995 and 2002, scoring four goals.

The Dubliner played for Liverpool, Manchester City (1999-2001) and Wolves at club level among others, before finishing his playing career at Ipswich between 2010 and 2012.

Since then he has been involved in coaching at the club, managing the under-21s.

"We are disappointed to see Sparky go but we wish him all the best for the future," Ipswich boss and ex-Ireland manager Mick McCarthy told the club website.
