Former New Zealand and Connacht player Mils Muliaina has been cleared of sexual assault and has also spoken of his frustration with how the case was handled.

The ex-All-Black, who won 100 international caps between 2003 and 2011, was arrested in the UK in April after Connacht's match against Gloucester, before being released on bail.

He had been accused of groping a 19-year-old woman on the bottom in a Cardiff nightclub, but his defence counsel had argued that it was a case of mistaken identity and he had denied wrongdoing.

The court today ruled that there was a lack of evidence, leading to the case being dropped.

Speaking after the ruling, Muliaina said: "It's been incredibly frustrating not to be able to publicly comment about it. While I understand the police have a job to do, the manner in which I was arrested I find difficult to understand. I can still hold my head up high and, as the judge said, this is no stain on my character. I have always known that I did not do anything wrong."
