Former Arsenal captain and assistant manager Pat Rice is being treated for cancer.

The 64-year old has been admitted to hospital.

He was capped 49 times for Northern Ireland during his playing days.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says they hope his "legendary strengths" help him recover.

He said: "Not only do we love him but of course we are very grateful for what he has done here."

Rice was Wenger's assistant from 1996 to 2012.
