It's a serious undertaking: American station FXX is showing every single episode of The Simpsons - as well as the movie - in a 24-hours a day marathon. 'Every Simpsons Ever', which is showing the episodes in order from season one to 25, kicked off on Thursday, and is set to continue until the first of September.

So far, the event has been a ratings success for FXX, which only launched last September. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the first day saw primetime episodes achieve average figures in excess of one million viewers - a 391% improvement on the network's usual figures. It was also overall the channel's most watched day.

While it seems as if fans are flocking to check out their favourite episodes in their original form (without the edits many episodes are subject to when repeated), some viewers found themselves disappointed.

There have been complaints that the episodes are being broadcast in the wrong aspect ratio - 16:9 instead of the original 4:3, which was the show's aspect ratio of choice until 2009. This means that the images have been 'cropped' to fit modern TVs. Unfortunately, this makes the images look distorted and unnatural.

Worse, however, is that some of the classic Simpsons sight gags are 'missing' as the edges of the frame have been cut off. Indiewire offered some examples of the types of jokes viewers could be missing out on. You can also rest assured fans were on Twitter voicing their disapproval, and - as Comic Book Guy once said - 'registering their disgust':
