Seamus Coleman scored his fifth goal of the Premier League season – more than any other defender in the league – to help Everton to a 2-1 win over Southampton at Goodison Park.
The Irish international right back opened the scoring after 9 minutes when he ran from his won half before skipping past a challenge on the way into the Southampton box and then driving a shot into the top corner.
Coleman’s opener was cancelled out when Joel Robles – Everton’s stand in keeper making his first Premier League appearance and taking the place of Tim Howard – allowed a tame shot from Gaston Ramirez to slip through his fingers. The goal came from 30 yards out and on 71 minutes the sides were level.
Romelu Lukaku came to Everton’s rescue just 3 minutes later. The Belgian latched on to a pass from Ireland’s James McCarthy before burying the ball past Kelvin Davies.
The win puts Everton on 37 points and into fourth.
